SMA Staydown Infant Milk

For babies with significant reflux and for babies who bring back their feed

Specially tailored formula

For babies with significant reflux (regurgitation) and for babies who bring back their feeds

Nutritionally complete

Suitable as the sole source of nutrition from birth to 6 months

Thickens in tummy not in bottle

Contains natural corn (maize) starch which helps the feed settle more easily

Unlike other formulas, SMA Staydown should be made up with chilled water that has been previously boiled. (See Preparing the Feed)

SMA Staydown is also suitable for older infants and young children in conjunction with solid food.

SMA Staydown is suitable for both Halal and Vegetarian diets.

What is significant reflux?

Most babies bring back some of their feeds. However if your baby is bringing back milk more frequently and in larger volumes it may be due to significant reflux.

Most babies grow out of this condition by 12 to 18 months of age.

If you think your baby is suffering from significant reflux, consult your GP.

When should SMA Staydown be used?

SMA Staydown can be used from birth up until 18 months of age.  However, all babies are individual, and the problem may stop around the time of weaning, in which case you can switch back to an infant formula, such as SMA First Infant Milk (Formerly SMA Gold). Or if your baby is over 6 months, you may choose a follow-on milk such as SMA Follow-on Milk (Formerly SMA Progress), which is specially formulated for older babies as part of a mixed weaning diet.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: Breastfeeding is best for babies. Good maternal nutrition is important for the preparation and maintenance of breastfeeding. Introducing partial bottle-feeding may have a negative effect on breastfeeding and reversing a decision not to breastfeed is difficult. You should always seek the advice of a doctor, midwife, health visitor, public health nurse, dietitian or pharmacist on the need for and proper method of use of infant milks and on all matters of infant feeding. Social and financial implications should be considered when selecting a method of infant feeding. Infant milk should always be prepared and used as directed. Inappropriate foods or feeding methods, or improper use of infant formula, may present a health hazard. Anti-reflux infant formulae are intended for formula fed babies when significant reflux (regurgitation) is a problem. If the baby’s reflux does not improve within 2 weeks of starting an anti-reflux formula, or if the baby fails to thrive, the family doctor should be consulted.
